Characteristics Of Butt Welding Flanges

Butt welding flanges can be connected to the pipeline to maintain the sealing performance of the pipeline. Butt weld flanges allow for easy replacement of pipe sections, easy disassembly and inspection of pipe condition, and easy sealing of pipe sections made of carbon steel. A flange is the connection of two large diameter pipes. This device, also known as carbon steel flange, usually consists of two flange sections and several fastening bolts.
Carbon steel flanges are made of carbon steel. Mild steel has good ductility and low strength. Adding the right amount of carbon will harden, while plasticity will reduce strength. Flanged connections may need to withstand higher tensile, compressive, torsional and shear strengths. Therefore, butt welding flanges are a better choice.
Precautions for the use of butt welding flanges:
1. In order to prevent the intergranular corrosion caused by the heating of the butt welding flange, the butt current should not be too large, about 20% smaller than that of the carbon steel electrode, the arc should not be too long, the cooling of the intermediate layer should be fast, and the welding seam should be narrow. The electrode should be kept dry, the titanium calcium type should be dried at 150 °C for 1 hour, and the low hydrogen type should be dried at 200-250 °C for 1 hour (do not repeat drying, otherwise the coating will easily crack and peel off) to prevent the electrode coating from sticking. Adheres to oil and other dirt to avoid increasing the carbon content of stainless steel and butt weld flanges in welds, which can affect weld quality.
2. In the butt welding process of butt welding flange, repeated heating will cause carbide to precipitate, thereby reducing corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. After the chrome stainless steel welded flange is hardened, the American standard flange is large and prone to cracking. For butt welding of the same type of chromium stainless steel electrodes (G202, G207), more than 300 times and more than 700 times of preheating and slow cooling should be performed.
